SAVAGE
Savage is a portraiture and creative writing project created to explore the notion of female and the experience of woman in environment.
This project, sparked from conversations surrounding the historical and present day significance of female oppression, examines patriarchal systems of power and a joint feeling of empowerment by the blood that all women shed every month - for creation and support of the evolving human species.
Exploring symbolism of menstruation, images created exude both strength and vulnerability. Images are shot in both black and white and color to give depth of perspective and balance. Narrative created for this project is in the form of poetry.
My mother was a savage once too.
She riped out our hearts, ripped our souls whole.
And brought us to life
As the savage sings from the inside out
we weep
